Due to a winter storm that is bringing freezing rain and sleet into the area, Harris County Precinct One will close its parks and community centers at noon Tuesday and re-open on Thursday, weather permitting.
The community centers that offer seniors and youth programs also will close. The Harris County Aquatics Program’s (HCAP) adult swim classes are canceled Tuesday and Wednesday.
HCAP Mighty Dolphins practice will not be held Tuesday. Coaches will determine Wednesday as to whether practice will resume that day.
Also, the Road and Bridge Department is on standby to place chat rock on bridges and overpasses in unincorporated areas of Precinct One should ice form.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for multiple counties, including Harris and surrounding counties. It will be in effect until midnight Wednesday.
Precinct One Commissioner Rodney Ellis urges residents to stay inside and off the roads if possible. If you must go outside, dress in layers and wear hats, gloves and an appropriate coat.
Also, bring your pets and potted plants inside. Use cloth fabric to cover outdoor plants that are sensitive to cold.
Wrap exposed faucets and pipes, including those outside the house or in unheated crawl spaces, attics, garages and other areas.
