Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis today commends Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia for leading the effort to name a Houston post office after U.S. Army Spc. Vanessa Guillen, a Houston native who was murdered in 2020 at Fort Cavazos, formerly Fort Hood in Killeen. Below is Commissioner Ellis’s statement:
“My deepest thanks to Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia for her relentless pursuit to ensure Spc. Vanessa Guillen’s memory is commemorated in such a significant manner. This dedication not only serves as a lasting tribute to Spc. Guillen’s life and her family's courage but also stands as a beacon of hope and a call to action for all of us to continue advocating for change. May Spc. Guillen’s spirit and the movement her story has inspired continue to guide our community in our pursuit of justice and equality."
