Commissioner Ellis’s Statement on Court’s Ruling on Harris County’s Community Prosperity Program

25 Oct, 24

Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis on Tuesday issued the following statement on a state district court’s ruling affirming the county’s Community Prosperity Program, which provides $500 a month via a preloaded debit card that comes with spending restrictions.

"This ruling is a significant victory for Harris County and the hundreds of thousands of families struggling to pay rent, put food on the table, and make ends meet. With the court’s decision, we can now move forward with our Community Prosperity Program, bringing life-changing support to over 1,800 families.

While we anticipate continued attempts by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to block our efforts, we will not be deterred by state extremists. Our commitment is unwavering: we will fight until every Harris County family has the resources and opportunities to prosper."
