Below is Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis’s statement on J. Kent “Kenny” Friedman’s removal as Chairman of the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority:
"I am deeply disappointed by today’s vote to remove J. Kent “Kenny” Friedman as Chairman of the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority. Kenny’s longstanding commitment to our community and his visionary leadership have made Houston a more vibrant and inclusive city, creating spaces that bring people together and strengthen our sense of community.
Kenny deserved the chance to finish his term with the dignity he’s earned over decades of service. Under his leadership, Houston has hosted two NFL Super Bowls and three NCAA Final Four events. Also, the FIFA World Cup will be held in Houston next year.
Beyond his work on Harris County’s sports venues, Kenny has been working to advance equity in diverse communities and has been the driving force behind organizations that enrich our communities’ civic, cultural, and educational landscape. While I disagree with the outcome, I remain grateful for Kenny’s tireless efforts, and I know that he will continue to make Harris County a better place.”
